Dear Mr Larry Cooper,
I am writing this email to inform you of a recent development that
needs your immediate attention. It seems like the "unit" that was
delivered to my house 2 weeks ago has developed a "glitch". After
checking the "mother board" and verifying that all was in perfect
working order, the next logical assumption was that the problem had
to be a "software" issue..... and let me just say the "unit"
certainly is soft.. Since this is YOUR department I am requesting
your help.
Sometime yesterday, 09/06/06, the "unit" now know as "Theo" started
making a terrible noise. At first it was intermittent so I didn't
really worry about it. But sometime last night (around 1 am) it
seemed to have entered into a software "loop". This lasted for a
couple of hours - the "unit" was unplugged from the "motherboard"
and when plugged back in the noise subsided some what but not
completely. After unplugging the unit again, the noise increased in
length and volume. It seemed to be running on some internal battery
backup system(I didn't order one of these - I hope there was no
extra charge!). The "unit" became quiet only after running out of
power.
But, the unit seems to also be equipped with an
internal "recharging" system (again, something I did not order) as
the noise has reappeared this morning. In addition to the original
noise, which I can only describe as a , H O W L, there now seems to
be new sounds.
I have looked over my original order and did not find a line item
for a sound card or a microphone. Therefore I can only assume that
the "unit" has some sort of "software" programmed into it that was
not in the original product description. If you would please check
with your other Engineer (Gabriel), and your Technician (Chris),
and let me know if there is anything that can be done to fix
this "glitch" I would appreciate it.
I understand that custom orders are not "returnable", and up to this
point there has not been a problem with this particular "unit".
After last night I am beginning to wonder if there are any other
software "surprises" (kind of like that big software company based
in Seattle).......... If so, I would appreciate knowing what else
might have been programmed into the "unit".
I await your input to this matter.
Sincerely,
Sleepless in Atlanta
Sharon

Dear Sharon,
First of all, let me thank you for purchasing our top-of-the-line
THEO (Tervuren High Energy Output) unit. You can expect many years
of satisfaction from the THEO, if given proper care.
Tervuren Inc. would like to thank you for taking time to write with
your concerns about your 2-week old unit. We take pride in all of
our units, and would like to address your questions, so you may
enjoy your THEO to the fullest extent possible.
Concerning the noise you are now experiencing, let me assure you
that this is totally normal. At Tervuren Inc, our Primary Input
Engineer (Mr. Champion Gabriel) has developed a way to ensure that
our units actually gain production output capability as they age.
However, as noted in your Tervuren Users Manual, the THEO is
designed to be wholly supported by the motherboard for the first 4-5
weeks following initial installation. Detaching the THEO too soon
from the motherboard may result in louder than expected noise
output. This can be rectified by reattaching the THEO to the
motherboard, using one of the TEATS (Touch Entry Adaptors for
TervurenS) located on the underside of the motherboard.
Also, the THEO is designed to enter "sleep" mode after a period of
inactivity, which explains the noise reduction. Let me assure you
that this, in no way, denotes a lack of power, only storage of power
to be used during the next activity cycle. All Tervuren Inc. units
have this functionality built into their primary circuitry.
The HOWL (Hours of Output Without Letup) is a standard feature with
the THEO, and marks the point at which the unit enters the Stage 2
output cycle. During the Stage 2 cycle, you will notice greatly
increased activity from the unit â€" much more than was seen during
the first two weeks following installation. This is natural with
all models we deliver.
As for "surprises", there are none. With the THEO, you will notice
an increase in demand, as it powers up to full potential. This
usually begins around 8 weeks following initial installation, and
levels off somewhere around 4-6 months following start-up.
In conclusion, let me say that we are confident you will find your
THEO to be everything you expected. However, in this one case, we
are willing to make an exception to our no-return policy. If, by
the time your THEO enters its 8-week demand cycle, you are not
totally satisfied, we will be happy to arrange for pick-up and
return of the unit, at no cost to you.
Sincerely,
Larry Cooper
